PAD #123 – Back In Time

Back In Time

When was the last time you shot film? Need more time? It’s been a while since I’ve shot 35mm film too. Twenty years ago was the last time I shot 35mm film. I was using a very modern, for the time, Canon T50.

A few days ago I discovered that my beloved Leica M8 had developed a crack on glass just above the sensor, it was not a good day to be me or around me. I took the camera in and now it’s on its way back home to Solms, Germany (home of Leica) for repair. Perhaps worse than the $$$ spent on the repair is the wait time of about 2 months. That’s way too long for me, so thankfully a friend stepped in and loaned this beautiful Leica III to me. Thanks Citta! It’s a beautiful piece of machinery. This particular one dates back to the early 40’s.

You may remember a post a while back about one photographer whose work I have always admired, Henry Cartier-Bresson. Bresson used this same camera/lens combo for quite some time. It’s interesting to see through the same camera/lens that he used. Over the next few weeks I’ll be using this camera in place of my M8. It should be quite an experiment.
