Bring Back the Grizzli Salad…Please

For the last 16 months Laura and I have been talking about returning to Grizzli Café and ordering the Grizzli Salad. Let me try and describe why this salad is so good. It starts with a mix of greens, tossed in a mustard vinaigrette and topped with foie gras, a perfectly poached egg, slices of smoked duck breast,  blue cheese and peeled tomatoes. It was good.

Yesterday we arrived, sat down and were handed menus. We looked and looked, but didn’t see the our salad listed. I thought that it might not be listed in the salads section and might be listed under the “Mains” sections. It wasn’t. We asked the waiter where the salad was and he replied that they changed the menu and it was no longer offered. What a bummer.

We ended up ordering a rib eye with fries and a salad with anchovy, olive, buffalo mozzarella and peeled tomatoes. The salad was good, but it wasn’t nearly as satisfying as the Grizzli Salad, the steak was seared perfectly, but wasn’t great.  Fortunately the baby artichokes with crème fresh and parmesan was delicious.

It is a great café in a good location, has a menu filled with several good selections and a friendly staff, we just happened to miss the old salad.

Our order: rib-eye steak with fries, baby artichokes with crème fresh and parmesan, and salad with anchovies, buffalo mozzarella and olives.

  1. I know exactly what you mean. Ben and I went to a French restaurant on Saturday night, which I’d booked because I had a yearning for their langoustines with saffron rice…but it’s not on the menu anymore! My duck and potato crisps was lovely, but not quite what I was in the mood for. I suspect this is a first world problem…! Enjoy the yummy French cuisine x
